Recitation Categories

• • Group A Ages 5-6: Surat Quraish (Chapter 106)

• • Group B Ages 7-9: Surat al Duha (Chapter 93)

• • Group C Ages 10-11: Surat al Balad (Chapter 90)

• • Group D Ages 12+: Surat al-Takweer (Chapter 81)

Quran teachers will be working with their students throughout the month of Ramadan to help them prepare for these surahs and we also encourage parents to help their children practice at home and have them participate in this competition.

In order to compete in the competition, you must register your child by March 23rd.

Recitation Judging Criteria

• • Competition is only open to Wali al-Asr Academy’s registered students between the ages of 5 and 18

• • All categories need to fully memorize the surah

• • Participants may opt to compete at higher age group.

• • For group C, students may be required to compete in group D if they are in the Advanced Quran class and if their teacher has recommended it.

• • Judges will evaluate each participant’s entry for:
    • • Recitation using proper etiquette
    • • Clarity and proper annunciation of Arabic sound
    • • Appropriate application of Tajweed rules

Memorization Tournament (Quran-Bee)

Students must be able to continue reciting starting from any part of the Quran from surah al-Shams to Surah al-Naas. This will model a “spelling-bee” style competition where students are given passages to recite.

• • Students will compete live before the school audience against each other 

• • Students will be given the beginning of the verse and instructions on how far to recite

• • The order of students and the verses given will be random.

• • Students will be eliminated by
    • • Not starting within the alotted time
    • • Not completing within the alotted time
    • • Reciting an incorrect verse or missing a word

• • 1st Place: $50

• • 2nd Place: $35

• • 3rd Place: $25

Everyone Else

• • 1st Place: $100

• • 2nd Place: $75

• • 3rd Place: $50
