Annual Quran Competition

Wali al-Asr Academy will host its 6th annual Quran competition for the school on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 (Ramadan 24).
The competition will occur at Yaseen Ed Institute and be evaluated by a judge before a live audience of their peers, teachers, and family.
In addition to the Recitation competition, we will also have a Memorization Tournament for the students to participate in. Students must be able to continue reciting starting from any part of the Quran from surah al-Mutaffifin to Surah al-Naas. Details are below.

Recitation Categories

- Group A Ages 5-6: Surat al-Naas (Chapter 114)
-
- Group B Ages 7-9: Surat al Qadr (Chapter 97)

- Group C Ages 10-11: Surat al A’la (Chapter 87)
-
- Group D Ages 12+: Surat al Inshiqaq (Chapter 84)
Quran teachers will be working with their students throughout the month of Ramadan to help them prepare for these surahs and we also encourage parents to help their children practice at home and have them participate in this competition.
In order to compete in the competition, you must register your child by March 7th.
Recitation Judging Criteria

- Competition is only open to Wali al-Asr Academy’s registered students between the ages of 5 and 18
-
- All categories need to fully memorize the surah

- Participants may opt to compete at higher age group.

- For group C, students may be required to compete in group D if they are in the Advanced Quran class and if their teacher has recommended it.

- Judges will evaluate each participant’s entry for:

- Recitation using proper etiquette
-
- Clarity and proper annunciation of Arabic sound

- Appropriate application of Tajweed rules

- Judges will evaluate each participant’s entry for:
Memorization Tournament (Quran-Bee)
Students must be able to continue reciting starting from any part of the Quran from surah al-Mutaffifin to Surah al-Naas. This will model a “spelling-bee” style competition where students are given passages to recite.
